BRICK IN A SOFT HAT (Martha Gruening, Series 2 No. 6)

As a 2013/2014 Fellow at the Frankel Institute of Advanced Judaic Studies University of Michigan, Dessel researched the life and work of Martha Gruening (1889-1937), suffragist, civil rights activist, journalist, lawyer, educator, single parent. This new series of drawings “BRICK IN A SOFT HAT Series 2 Nos. 1-8 (Portraiture of Martha Gruening)” will be exhibited in the Gomez Mill House in celebration of its 300th Anniversary. Gruening purchased the Mill House (1919-1923) with the intention of opening an International Libertarian School for children of all races and religions.
