While Artist-in-Residence at TONDACH Ceská republika S.R.O. (a brick & roof tile factory)in the Czech Republic (2008) Dessel was invited to create a piece for the JIRCANY 2008 Exhibit (Prague, September 2008). The exhibit’s opening night included an auction of the art work to benefit the Jan Deyl Conservatory and Secondary School for the Visually Impaired.

With the auction in mind, and having observed the many residential building sites around Prague, Dessel used the brick clay as her medium to create a bird bath. While the artist’s work is generally conceptual, meeting the challenge of working with this unfamiliar material within the time constraints of the process to create a functional piece was very satisfying.

Dessel’s other work done during the 2008 residency includes “sweet dreams”, which will be installed in the Tondach Sculpture Garden; the “Tondach Series” of 8 small works, and “Bull Market”.
