OUR BACKYARD… was originally created as a site-specific installation for the Dam Stuhltrager Gallery Sculpture Garden. (Williamsburg, Brooklyn NY)
Dessel was invited to show this piece in the Long Beach Island Foundation Gallery 2007/2008 Residency Exhibit, the theme of which was art created after 9/11.

The LBIF contacted the artist before the May 3rd Opening Reception and offered the artist a choice: agree to have the work walled-off for the duration of the exhibit or remove it before the show opened.

An ongoing dialogue about the censorship of the work can be found on the LINKS page in this web site in the “art blog & media responses to censorship of Dessel’s work” section.

Your comments are welcomed by the artist. E-mail can be sent to the artist on the web site’s ABOUT page.
